Indigo - Handmade Paper

For this collection I have embraced the creative practice of indigo dying and papermaking. The work was created by using the Japanese method of dying called Shibori. Which involves either folding, wrapping, binding or clamping of cloth, (in my case paper) and dying the paper in a vat of indigo. I use a mix of abaca and cotton fibers to create my paper. The Shibori Pages/Scrolls highlight the diversity of this dying technique. Close monitoring on how the paper absorbs the dye is essential. Each dyed piece is distinct allowing intuitive assemblages to be formed.

Frequently my work responds to my state of mind, lately that involves persistent thoughts concerning how individuals absorb loss and also life, in this series the act of absorbing is symbolic.
